Next person who posts a comment asking if they can have my journal is getting a rabid marsupial mailed to them. Not one of the cute Australian ones, either.

    I'm currently reading...
Soon I Will Be Invincible by Austin Grossman
The Lucifer Effect by Philip Zimbardo
The Vanishing Hitchhiker by Jan Harold Brunvard
A Great Improvisation by Stacy Schiff
The Black Swan by Nassim Nicholas Taleb

Hmm. I haven't read much fiction lately, apart from SIWBI and DH. Any recommendations?

It's very sad when someone tries for geek cred and fails.
One of my minions said something about a film today: "I'm such a huge Simpsons fan. I was so bummed when they canceled it a few years back, but isn't it great that there's a movie?"

They really hid the midnight showings of The Simpsons Movie on Google's movie search. I'm thinking that the theaters paid off Google so that they don't have to deal with very many nerds dressed up like Disco Stu that late at night.

    I don't know why, but I'm going.

I got a few shots the other day, and now I'm having a bad allergic reaction. If anyone with fewer allergies than me wants to swap bodies once medical science gets that far, I'm game.

On the bright side, I don't have tuberculosis...according to Wikipedia, anyway.

When I was 14, I was rather obsessed with Kingdom of Loathing. I started playing again about a month ago, and I'm obsessed again. The other day was the Feast of Boris, which is like Thanksgiving at my house: there are Yam Golems, cans of cranberry sauce that are probably evil, and Malevolent Tofurkeys.

    Anyway, this cracked me up:

    Tofurkey gravy

Mmmm... nothing says "Happy Holidays" like a vat of gelatinous goo that tastes vaguely like meat. It's just like your mom used to make, if your mom was a filthy hippy.

    Well...not a filthy one.

    Deathly Hallows Spoilers
(There's about a week until legitimate Harry Potter spoilers are likely to come out, but I want to post this now in case something real shows up early.)

I love spoilers and spoilers love me. I realize that many of you do not understand our relationship and intend to shun my beloved, and I'm okay with that.

If you don't want to be spoiled, don't read my friendslist from here on out. I've got a community specifically for Deathly Hallows spoilers friended, in addition to a couple of general HP communities. For the most part, they keep the spoileriffic stuff under cuts and locked, but there's always a possibility that someone will make a mistake. If it'll ruin your year if you find out anything in advance, I recommend that you avoid places where you're likely to see them. To reiterate, my flist is one of them.

If you ever happen to want someone to vet a page for spoilers, I will merrily do so. Just send me a link to the page that you think may be spoilertastic and I'll let you know if I find any spoilers that you wouldn't want to read. :)

I am spending way too much time in ceilings lately. Spending time with me is probably carcinogenic now.

    New Sleep Habits, Unfortunately
Augh! I'm diurnal! I've been waking up at sunrise and falling asleep at sunset for the past few days. It's horrifying.

I wonder if there's a support group for this.

    Happy My Dad's Birthday!
Today is a day that all Americans celebrate for reasons that have escaped me: my dad's birthday. Yes, on this day 63 years ago, my dad was born and people started blowing things up. Uncle Sam (Aunt Ann's husband, not Uncle Ellis' brother) called earlier, which was very nice and insanely early.

We shall be celebrating my dad's birth with cake in his favorite colors (blue, white, and red for some reason), the traditional birthday sparklers, and possibly hippie vegan barbecue.

Even if you're far from the center of the Christine's Dad's Birthday celebrations, I urge you to enjoy the fireworks and white sales. Tell 'em that the birthday boy's daughter sent you. Also, hit people with sticks if they don't keep their pets inside tonight. Far too many animals run away on July 4th or just get scared, and I hate the fact that it's because of my dad's birth.

Ginger died yesterday evening. I did everything I could to make her last hours pleasant, but she's out of pain now. She had a longer, happier life than I've had so far, though she's made significant contributions to the cause of my happiness.

We're going up to the farm for a burial soon. Might wind up spending a few days in northern Kentucky, but I'm not sure about that.

    Canada Day
Happy Canada Day! I hope all the Canadians on my list have as thrilling a Canada Day as my neighbors, but without the maple-related doctor visit.

(I have no idea why the non-Canadians down the street have started celebrating Canada Day, but I'm just going to go with it.)

The first place I went after coming home from the hospital was to get Ginger. I can't contemplate life without her.

We started talking about the e-word today.

    Unfortunate New Summer Obsession!
Age of Love is, as predicted, the most mockable thing ever. If you don't watch it right now, you won't know what people are mocking tomorrow. I'm slightly disappointed that none of the older women said, "I'm 40, love," upon learning that they had to tell the tennis dude their ages, but perhaps it is good that other people can resist bad puns.

I've managed to successfully fake indie cred using references I'd read in Questionable Content. I've passed math tests when my only exposure to the material was through the notes in the Princess Diaries series.* Through a process involving far too much television and minimal study, I managed to captain the youngest Future Problem Solving team to ever win our region. I just thoroughly impressed my neighbor who is a professor by remembering a fact about marmosets that I learned from a cartoon.

Hooray for fiction! Knowledge + Stories = Power + Stories

*I'd been sick for the past month, and no one would give me my homework...also I like Meg Cabot's writing style sometimes. Please don't shun me very much.

I'm cleaning out my bookmarks, but there are a few things I think you all should know about due to their spiffiness.

Smithson is a webcomic about supernatural doings and superheroes at a small liberal arts college. It's written by Shaenon Garrity of Narbonic fame, so you know it's good.

Sometimes, stuff is just so awesome that I have to Snoopy dance.

Fun fact: Uncle Ted (who is not really my uncle or really named Ted, but that's what I call him) knew Bill Gates when he still kinda looked like that.

If you like Mary Worth's crazy as much as I do, you'll love this.

Fashiondig is my new obsession. Shiny vintageness!

Minus is like a newspaper comic from the turn of the last century in several awesome ways.

The Barbie Decapitation Study is rather self-explanatory.

My internet connection's been slightly crazy for the past few days. I can only connect with wires now. I'll run a wire up to my room later and work a bit more on fixing my wireless router, but I probably won't be on much for a while.

(I'm hoping that this post will have the usual effect of magically fixing my connection.)
